Do What You Are Reflection
After taking the “Do What You Are” assessment, I discovered that my “Personality type” was ENFP. The strengths of my personality include: “impressing people with your quickness and creativity, anticipating, correctly, the answers people are looking for, developing rapport easily, and changing gears quickly, thinking quickly and articulating your strengths effectively, and networking effectively to create helpful relationships”. On the flip side, my weaknesses include: “not following through on important details and deadlines, having difficulty committing before you have checked out all your options, being too idealistic and setting unrealistic goals, not being very organized and not using your time well, exaggerating or not being completely accurate with facts”.
The overall idea of my career and college satisfiers all pertained to freedom of thought, lack of strict guidelines, and fun, encouraging, new people who help me stick to my core values while experiencing new things. I felt as though the results I received were not surprising to me because that is how I see my career and college path. I love to be creative and do my own thing and always have a new idea to tackle, so my career and job satisfiers make perfect sense to me. I feel that with my college choices and career choices, these satisfiers will help me determine the perfect school and job fit for me. I know that when I choose a school, I need to go with the college that feels like me. In addition, the school has to draw me in from the start and keep me hooked; I have to pick the school just as much as the school has to pick me. As for my career path, the satisfiers can and will help me pick the job that always keeps my on my toes. From the get go, I knew that a monotonous office job was not the job for me, but I was still lost as to what was the job for me. After finding out my career path satisfiers, like college, I can use them to pick the job as much as the jobs picks me. Finally, just like job have guidelines for employees, I will have guidelines for my life and my career through the use of my satisfiers.
When I looked at my learning style, I was on board with what was given to me, although I did make me think about the last thing. My learning style was similar to my satisfiers and the way that they worked. The one thing on my learning styler list that had caught me off guard was the idea of me wanting a reward for my creativity. I had to ponder this idea some as I realized my reward was the intangible praise I receive for hard work and creativity. I’m more aware now that I do long for my work to be praise and appreciated as I feel what I do is one of a kind and makes me proud. Most recently, I just turned in a history project this past week and I feel accomplished and proud of my work. I worked hard and diligently in hopes of getting an A. Awaiting my grade, I sincerely hope I’ll receive praise for my work. In addition, my history project had included making an ad for Teddy Roosevelt and being as my dog's name is Teddy, named after Teddy Roosevelt from the “Night at the Museum” movies, I included a picture of my dog and shared that small story. I’m really hoping that my wit and creativity will be appreciated by my teacher. I think that in the future, my learning style will help me create impressions and relationships with the people I am with. My learning style will allow me to open new opportunities for myself and create a strong work environment for myself.
The five careers I have chosen from the list given to me are: a forensic scientist and technician with the needed major of forensic science and technology, a lawyer with the needed major of American US Law studies, a model with a needed major of fashion modeling, a recreation worker with a major of health and physical education/fitness, general, and a clinical psychology with a major in psychology. The list of careers and majors before me range far and wide, and although it may be overwhelming, it makes me happy to know that my career journey leaves so many options for me and the happiness and success I can/will have.
